GSGF-CARE

The GSGF Collaboration and Awareness in Europe (GSGF-CARE) is a GEOS Grant project (2024-FI-GEOS-GSGF-CARE) to evaluate the maturity of statistical-geospatial data integration in Europe.

The multi-beneficiary project involves several participants from National Statistical Institutes (NSIs) from seven countries (Finland, Sweden, Portugal, Austria, Norway, Belgium and Spain), the National Land Survey of Finland and the Finnish Terminology Centre, as a sub-contracted participant.

The project lasts 24 months, from February 2025 to January 2027.

The project seeks to understand and evaluate the progress, challenges and obstacles in integrating statistical and geospatial information by conducting a situational assessment and promoting capacity building and capability development based on the results of such assessment.

The project draws on outcomes from previous projects, including best practices, conceptual contents and methodological materials. The goal of the project is dual:

  1. to inform the strategic level of the ESS on the state of play regarding statistical-geospatial data integration and what needs to be done to keep momentum;
  2. to share a practical body of knowledge that will impact statistical development by enhancing the utilisation of geospatial information to produce geospatial statistics and facilitate the implementation of GSGF Europe.

The expected results of the project will benefit the involved organisations, other statistical entities receiving support and contribute to a broader impact at the national level or diverse thematic domains through institutional cooperation and technical collaboration initiatives and shared experiences.

The project is composed of four Work Packages (WPs):

  • WP1: Project management and coordination;
  • WP2: Monitoring and assessment of the maturity for statistical-geospatial data integration in the ESS;
  • WP3: Supporting the progress of statistical-geospatial data integration in the ESS;
  • WP4: Communication and networking.
