The Earth Observation for Official Statistics and policy indicators reporting Conference (StatEO26) will take place from 5 to 7 May 2026 at ESA-ESRIN, in Frascati (Italy). The conference is co-organised with DG ESTAT, DG JRC, DG DEFIS, DG ENV, EARSC, EEA, OECD, UNSD, FAO, UNECE, University of Hannover, and Biodiversity Alliance & CIAT.
This conference aims to facilitate the integration of Earth Observation (EO) into the statistical production processes of National Statistical Institutes and policy reporting, addressing how EO data can enhance the quality of statistics, namely in terms of accuracy, timelines and spatial granularity. This is particularly relevant for statistics supporting environmental and agricultural monitoring, energy reporting and overall policy implementation.
The conference comprises thematic oral sessions and traditional presentations of use cases, experiences and insights on how EO has been integrated and used in several application areas, such as:
- Agricultural statistics
- Natural capital accounting frameworks (e.g., ecosystem accounting)
- Sustainable Development Goals and environmental policy reporting
- Land use and land cover
- Population and urban statistics
- Economy and infrastructure
- Sustainability indicators
The conference also includes a series of workshops focusing on predefined thematic topics, including user needs, methodologies for in-situ EO integration, standardisation and quality of EO in statistical processes, trust and uncertainty issues, accessibility and interoperability, capacity building and future steps.
Abstract submission for oral, poster or workshop proposals is open until the defined deadlines. For more information and inquiries, please visit the conference website here.
