Maps and Statistics in Harmony

Timo Aarnio (National Land Survey of Finland)

Statistics Finland and National Land Survey of Finland have a long history of co-operation and collaboration. One of the results of our collaboration is the thematic maps tool in Oskari. Oskari is a free and open source project that enables setting up web-based services effortlessly. The thematic maps tool combines statistical data and geospatial data as thematic maps and other charts. The beauty is that all data is fetched online utilizing API’s instead of static datasets, so users will always get up-to-date data. As the user interface is browser based the users will not have to worry about software version updates either, they will always have the newest version running when they open the tool. This presentation will highlight the newest additions to the thematic maps tool and also introduce some other features that are interesting to people working with statistical and spatial data.
