At 27 July, 2017, the U.S. Census Bureau, Center for Statistical Research & Methodology arranged a seminar where Marie Haldorson from Statistics Sweden presented the results from GEOSTAT 2 project with a brief outlook on GEOSTAT 3. The event was a part of the SUMMER AT CENSUS programme.
GEOSTAT 2 – A Point-Based Foundation for Statistics: A Model for a Point-Based Geocoding Infrastructure for Statistics Based on a Geocoded Address, Building, and Dwelling Register
Early this year a European project team coordinated by Statistics Sweden presented the results from the GEOSTAT 2 project. The project has been funded by the European Commission, conducted during 2015 and 2016. The main objective of the project has been to propose a model for a point-based geocoding infrastructure for statistics based on geocoded address, building and dwelling registers. The proposal is based on national practices in the European context, but might be of interest also outside Europe. One important use case for the point-based approach is the population census conducted in the European countries 2021, another important use case is to enable flexible geographies when measuring the 2030 Agenda. The scope of the project has also included an evaluation of the Generic Statistical Business Process Model the (GSBPM) in terms of its fitness for purpose to describe the use of geospatial data in the production of statistics and to provide recommendations on the possible improvement of the GSBPM to better address geospatial data management in the statistical production process.
