On April 27-29, the 64th plenary session of the Conference of European Statisticians took place in Paris. One of the main themes were geospatial information services based on official statistics.
The Conference recognized the growing importance of integrating statistical and geospatial information, and encouraged statistical and geospatial organizations to deepen their collaboration to better meet policy needs and other user requirements. The importance of the United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGlM) initiative, and its regional bodies, such as UN-GGIM Europe and the UN expert group on the integration of statistical and geospatial information, in this respect was stressed.
Ideas from the ongoing GEOSTAT 2 project were included in a keynote from Eurostat and Statistics Sweden. A number of presentations on national experiences and practices were also presented, covering av variety of topics.
