The population density map is a result of a research project on the feasibility of disaggregating population available at LAU2 level using CORINE Land Cover data as additioal information source. The method is described in the publication Gallego F.J., Peedell S. (2001): Using CORINE Land Cover to map population density. Towards Agri-environmental indicators, Topic report 6/2001 European Environment Agency, Copenhagen, pp. 92-103. (http://agrienv.jrc.it/publications/pdfs/disagg_pop.pdf).
